On November 29th, 1998 I placed my very first webpage on the net. I was so excited! Now, several months later I proudly boast that my site consists of over 60 pages and has won some 40 awards and I still get excited! From all the positive feedback I have received from viewers both in the form of guestbook entries (had to start a new one today as the first one had reached it's entry limit) and emails (I get on average 30 a day) I think YOU like what you see on my site.
That is ... up until now.
Yesterday I received the following email. At first I was upset, so much in fact that I sat down and replied with a very nasty email. But since then I have given the situation some thought. Please read email then read on to see what I have concluded.

Doesn't anyone have any values or morals anymore ? ? Go home and try again.... Obviously you missed something in growing up.
The graphic Doug is referring to is this one which can be seen on 18 of the 19 FUNN pages I have currently online. The 19th page ~ Sunshine's Dragon's ~ does not have it because the page is geared more for kids than the others.
It's not the email or the graphic that is important issue here. There are plenty of "Dougs" in this world and far worse graphics and things that a child can view, be it on the net or elsewhere.
I have concluded that the real issue is RESPONSIBILITY and who should take OWNERSHIP of it.
When I was growing up the menace of the day was television and how it was viewed to be corrupting the minds of young people. Parents were up in arms and placing blame on big money hungry corporations and networks. Yet at the same time were plopping their kids down in front of the 'boob tube' which eventually became known as the inanimate 'babysitter'. Sort of like the "don't do as I do ... do as I say " mentality.Well for better or worse depending which side of the fence you happen to be on, television is what television is and kids now a days have evolved. They are mouse clickers and surf riders which of course now has raised so many more issues than television ever did.
As a webmistress I have no intentions of changing my "style" or removing the peeing man or anything else for that matter from my pages. It's up to parents to censor what your kids are seeing on the net NOT censor what is available for them to see. There IS a difference.
If you have young kids (under 10 say) they likely need help to get on the internet in the first place. If they are older, why not grab a chair and surf with them for a couple of hours. By the way that's known as quality time.
One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole basket and as long as I continue to get more positive than negative remarks I will continue to create and publish my pages on the net for YOU ... the viewing public.Thank you for taking the time to read this page.
